There are only 19 shopping
days remaining before the inaugural PapaJohns.com Bowl, and East
Carolina officials are hoping supporters of the Pirates purchase tickets
as early stocking stuffers.
At close of business
Friday, East Carolina had sold 2,000 tickets for its showdown with Big
East member South Florida. The game at Legion Field in Birmingham, AL,
is slated for a 1 p.m. EST kickoff on Dec. 23. It will be televised on
ESPN2.
ECU is hopeful to sell
10,000 tickets and has partnered with Premiere Sports Travel to offer
several packages for fans eager for the Pirates' first bowl appearance
since 2001. Air, land, and motorcoach packages are available.
Sales for travel packages
have gone well thus far according to ECU Senior Associate Athletics
Director for External Operations Jimmy Bass. Fans interested in
purchasing a travel package can do so online at
ecupirateclubtravel.com, or
by calling toll free at 1-800-924-9993.
With the Pirates facing
USF, some view the PapaJohns.com Bowl as an opportunity for ECU to make
a statement to the Big East about the program and the support it enjoys.
East Carolina is regarded as a school that travels well to bowls, and it
is important that ECU lives up to that reputation this year.
