East Carolina's season
extended
From ECU and staff reports
East Carolina will have an
opportunity to add a few more victories to its first winning basketball
season in 14 years.
The Pirates (18-15)
accepted an invitation on Sunday to play in the third annual
CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) and immediately began
focusing on facing Jacksonville (19-11) in a first round matchup Tuesday
night at 8:00 p.m. in Williams Arena.
East Carolina, which has
compiled its first winning season in 14 years, will be making its first
postseason appearance since the 1993 NCAA Tournament.
Athletic department
officials noted
in a press release that because
of time constraints tickets will not be sold by phone but will be
available online or at the ticket office behind Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Season ticket holders will
be able to purchase $15 tickets for their regular seat locations until
5:00 p.m. Monday, according to
the release.
Each ECU student will be
able to purchase one ticket at $5 and additional tickets at $15 apiece,
subject to certain times and guidelines specified in
the release.
Seats not purchased by 5
p.m. Monday will be offered for sale to the general public. All ticket sales are
subject to availability.
The CIT's 24-team field
features schools from 15 leagues, including Conference USA, the Missouri
Valley Conference and the Mountain West Conference. ECU's fellow C-USA
members Marshall and Southern Methodist also accepted bids. [View

Old Dominion and Missouri
State were the CIT champions in 2009 and 2010, respectively.
East Carolina advanced to
the semifinal round of the Conference USA Tournament before bowing out
last Friday to eventual tournament champion Memphis.
Jacksonville, which
finished third in the Atlantic Sun Conference, will be playing in
a postseason tournament for the third year in a row. Last season, the
Dolphins appeared in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT),
overcoming an 11-point deficit in the final four minutes to knock out
No. 1 seed Arizona State in the first round.
According to an article on
the
CollegeInsider.com Web site, all of the CIT's games will be
"broadcast live through Fox College Sports Broadband, with the
championship being televised on Fox College Sports" on Wednesday, Mar.
30.
The CIT's format is
single-elimination through five rounds with all
games being played at on-campus sites.
The tournament opens
tonight with Quinnipiac (22-9) hosting Buffalo (18-13) at 7:00 pm.
