Friday night lights going on in Carrier
Dome
Washington's season-opening
football game at Syracuse has been changed to accommodate a national
telecast by Big East Conference rights-holder ESPN, the league has
announced.
The game, which was originally
scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 1, will be played on Friday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m.
at the Carrier Dome on the Syracuse campus.
WCU gets verbal from state player of year
Western Carolina has
received a commitment from the two-time Associated Press player
of the year, according to an Asheville Citizen-Times report.
Quan Warley, a tailback for three-time
1-AA state champion Thomasville, has committed to the Catamounts, according
to Thomasville coach Benjie Brown.
Warley, 6-feet and 185 pounds, rushed
3,304 yards as a junior and 2,816 yards in 2006.
The Bulldogs won the last 37 games
Warley played, including three state championships. In his high school
career, he rushed for 8,119 yards and 106 touchdowns.
Favre says he'll return to quarterback Packers
Former Southern Miss standout Brett
Favre has said that he plans to return for his 17th NFL season, according to
a statement from Green Bay Packers general manager Ted Thompson.
Favre, 37, is a three-time league MVP.
The Packers were 8-8 this past season.
