Rape charge filed against Navy football star

The quarterback who led Navy's football team to a college bowl game victory last season has been charged with raping a female midshipman on campus, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Lamar S. Owens, Jr., 22, a senior midshipman, was charged Wednesday with rape, indecent assault and conduct unbecoming an officer after an investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.

A female midshipman was raped Jan. 29 in her room in Bancroft Hall, the sprawling dormitory in Annapolis that houses all 4,000 midshipmen.

Owens is charged with rape, conduct unbecoming an officer and indecent assault. He has been allowed to remain at Bancroft Hall.

Finn finished with Musketeers

Xavier University Head Coach Sean Miller, a former N.C. State assistant, announced today that senior guard Dedrick Finn has been dismissed from the basketball team, according to the university's athletic website, goxavier.com.

"Today it was brought to my attention that Dedrick Finn has violated one of our program's cornerstone policies," said Miller. "Throughout his career we have tried to connect with Dedrick to continue to develop him as a person and have pursued numerous channels to see this through. Dedrick has been made well aware of the importance of following rules and guidelines that all team members must abide by.

"The fact that he is at the end of his senior year makes his recent actions even more disturbing. Dedrick is on track to graduate in May and we will support his efforts in doing so wholeheartedy. Our current basketball team will move forward with the important and complete understanding that no one player is more important than our program."

Finn played in 122 career games, scoring 912 points and dishing off 481 assists. He had 102 career starts. This season, he averaged 5.0 points and 4.0 assists.
