Home state honors K-State football icon

Legendary Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame this week, just months after retiring as K-State's all-time winningest football coach.

Snyder, a native of St. Joseph, MO, was in Springfield for the ceremonies as he entered the class with 15 other inductees.

In a related development, the Kansas house of representatives approved by a vote of 122-2 a measure that would name 14 miles of state highway 177 and U.S. 24 for Snyder. The bill now goes to the state senate.

Switzer endorse Osborne for Neb. governor

The Kansas City Star has reported that Barry Switzer, the Oklahoma coach who broke Nebraska fans’ hearts so many times, was the main attraction at a fund-raising event for former Nebraska coach Tom Osborne's gubernatorial campaign this week in Lincoln, NE.

“The fans used to think Oklahoma was the enemy,” Osborne said. “They actually made us better.”

The former coaches are contrasting personalities. Switzer liked to live hard and shoot from the hip. Osborne has always lived clean and has always spoken in deliberate fashion.

“A lot of great memories with Barry over the years,” Osborne said. “The thing I always appreciated about our relationship is that it was always amicable no matter the circumstances.”

Switzer wouldn’t answer when asked whether he is Republican or Democrat. He said he has switched affiliations a time or two.

“I never voted party. Never cared about that,” Switzer said. “I always voted for the guy, the person, the man or lady I thought was the best representative for me.”
