Compiled from staff reports
and electronic dispatches
Sendek may
become a Sun Devil
Several news agencies were reporting on
Saturday night that N.C. State basketball coach Herb Sendek has accepted an
offer to take the same position at Arizona State.
The reports were based on an official
with knowledge of the deal. The official spoke on condition of anonymity.
Arizona State athletic director Lisa
Love was unavailable for comment.
Sendek is 191-132 in 10 seasons with
the Wolfpack, leading the program to five consecutive NCAA Tournament
berths.
Love announced last month that Rob
Evans would not return as coach next season.
Brownell departs UNCW for Wright State
Brad Brownell, who has coached UNC-Wilmington
to two Colonial Athletic Association basketball championships in four
seasons, has resigned to fill the same post at Wright State.
Brownell guided the Seahawks to a 25-8
record during a 2005-06 season that featured three championships. UNCW
opened the season by winning the BCA Invitational in Laramie, WY, and then
shared the regular season crown in the CAA with George Mason at 15-3.
San
Diego State standout opts for NBA
The Indianapolis Star has reported that
San Diego State junior forward Marcus Slaughter declared for the NBA draft
and hired an agent, which eliminates any chance of him returning to school.
Slaughter averaged 16.5 points and 11.0
rebounds this season, when he was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference
selection. He helped the Aztecs go 24-9 and reach the NCAA Tournament for
just the fifth time in school history. They lost to Indiana in the first
round.
He was Most Valuable Player of the MWC
Tournament, scoring 49 points with a record 46 rebounds in three games.
