Bobby Knight gets milestone victory
Bobby Knight earned career victory
No. 880 although Texas Tech lost a 20-point lead in a 70-68 home win
over New Mexico on Monday night.
The Red Raiders withstood a 3-point
miss at the buzzer as Knight passed former North Carolina coach Dean Smith
for most career wins on the NCAA Division I level.
Gophers coach Mason axed after bowl loss
East Carolina no longer
holds the distinction of losing the largest lead in bowl history
and Glen Mason is no longer football coach at Minnesota.
Minnesota dismissed Mason on Sunday,
two days after the Gophers' 44-41 loss to Texas Tech in the Insight Bowl.
Minnesota led 38-7 in the third quarter but finished 6-7 for the season, its
first losing campaign in five years.
Mason had signed a four-year contract
extension last year.
Marshall overcame a 38-8 ECU lead in
the GMAC Bowl in 2001 for a 64-61 win in double overtime.
Hurricanes hang on in Coker's last game
Larry Coker went out a
winner, thanks to an interception by Miami freshman Chavez Grant
with 18 seconds left that sealed a 21-20 Hurricanes win over
Nevada in the MPC Computers Bowl in chilly Boise, ID.
The Wolf Pack (8-5) had moved to the
Canes' 36-yard line before the pick. Miami quarterback Kirby Freeman passed
for 272 yards with two touchdowns and he ran for another score.
Defensive coordinator Randy Shannon is
taking over for Coker, who was 60-15 as head coach with a national title.
The Canes finished 7-6 in 2006.
Seminoles' Timmons taking talents to NFL
Lawrence Timmons, who led Florida State
with 18 tackles for loss, scored three touchdowns on turnovers and finished
second on the team in tackles with 126 during his junior season in 2006, has
told Seminoles linebackers coach Kevin Steele that he has signed with agent
Drew Rosenhaus, according to a Tallahassee Democrat report.
