UAB's Felder honored for TD-preventing strip
After one of the most prolific receiving nights in
school history, Texas-El Paso wide receiver Johnnie Lee Higgins has been
named Conference USA offensive player of the week.
Defensive honors went to UAB's Chris Felder, whose
forced fumble saved the Blazers' win over East Carolina. Houston's Ben Bell
picked up special teams honor after his showing in a win over Tulane.
Higgins posted career-highs for catches (13) and
receiving yardage (162) in UTEP's 38-35 overtime loss to 24th-ranked Texas
Tech. He also scored two touchdowns on 13 and 39-yard passes from Jordan
Palmer. Higgins second touchdown came with 1:04 remaining in regulation to
tie the game at 35-35. The 13 catches marked the second-best game total in

over East Carolina as he stripped Pirate wide receiver Phillip Henry of the
ball at the Blazer one-yard line with just over a minute remaining in the
game, preserving the win for UAB. Felder finished the contest with four
tackles, all solos.
After not seeing any action last week, Bell stepped
in for an injured T.J. Lawrence and nailed all six of his extra points as
