Compiled from staff reports

Amato
continues mastery of Seminoles
Florida State's defense was spent at the
end of the Seminoles' 24-20 loss to N.C. State in Raleigh on Thursday night,
according to a Tallahassee Democrat report.
Already thinned by injuries, defensive
coordinator Mickey Andrews' group was worn down by the pounding from
Wolfpack tailbacks Toney Baker and Andre Brown. And then, just about five
minutes into the fourth quarter, the Seminoles' inexperienced secondary was
exploited once again by second-time starter Daniel Evans, who threw three
touchdown passes.
A touchdown pass to Jeron James left No. 16
FSU hoping for an offensive miracle. It wouldn't happen.
Wolfpack rover DeJaun Morgan cradled a pass
intended for Brandon Warren that was tipped his way. Less than two minutes
remained and the Wolfpack was able to run out the clock.
As the game ended, so for apparent practical purposes did FSU's pursuit of
another ACC title. The Seminoles dropped to 1-2 in the ACC Atlantic Division
and 3-2 overall.
N.C. State coach
Chuck Amato, who argued there was no advantage in his having been a
long-time assistant at Florida State, beat the Seminoles for the fourth time
in seven games.
FSU finished with just 96 yards rushing.
That meant that N.C. State's Brown, who starred at Greenville Rose High, had
more rushing yards (119) than the Seminoles team.
ECU volleyball triumphs at
home over UAB
East Carolina's volleyball team defeated
Conference USA foe UAB 3-1 (33-31, 27-30, 30-27, 30-21) on Friday night at
Minges Coliseum, according to an ECU athletic media relations release. ECU
improved to 11-9 on the year and 2-4 in C-USA while UAB fell to 14-6, 2-3.
Kelley Wernert and Mignon Dubenion paced
the Pirates, with Wernert tallying 20 kills and adding 12 digs for her ninth
double-double of the season. Dubenion finished the night with 18 kills and
six blocks. Heidi Krug also recorded a double-double with 52 kills and 12
digs. Libero Trish Monroe added 15 digs.
East Carolina returns to Minges Coliseum on
Sunday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. match with C-USA opponent Memphis.
Millican continues bid for spot on LPGA Tour
Former East Carolina standout golfer
Adrienne Millican carded her third consecutive round of 74 (2-over-par) to
move into a tie for 18th place at the Venice (FL) LPGA Sectional Qualifying
Tournament at Plantation Golf and Country Club, according to an ECU athletic
media relations release.
Millican was just three shots back off the
top-10 with a 54-hole total of 222 (74-74-74). The two-time first-team All
Conference-USA and C-USA All-Decade selection is vying to become a full
member of the LPGA Tour.
The first two days, players competed on
both the Bobcat and Panther courses at Plantation Golf and Country Club,
playing each of the courses once before the 36-hole cut was made. The final
two rounds are played on the Bobcat Course and the top-30 players and ties
at the end of 72 holes will advance to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament
at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla., Nov. 29-Dec. 3.
