Pirates add juco guard to recruiting class
Tallahassee Community College guard
Cory Farmer has signed an NCAA letter-of-intent with East Carolina,
according to a report in The Tallahassee Democrat.
Farmer helped the Eagles to a 31-4
record and an appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association
championship game this past season. A 6-foot-3 sophomore from Charlotte,
Farmer started all 35 games in 2005-06 for TCC, which shared the Panhandle
Conference Championship with Chipola College before defeating the Indians to
claim the Florida Community College Activities Association (FCCAA)
championship.
Farmer scored a career-high 26 points
against Pensacola Junior College, hitting 8-of-12 field goal attempts and
8-of-10 from the foul line. Farmer was named to the Coaches All-Panhandle
Conference Team and was a second-team all-conference selection.
C-USA
players contend for Howser Award
Six Conference USA standouts have been
named to the 64-man watch list for the 2006 Dick Howser Trophy, given to the
nation's top collegiate baseball player, according to the league's web site.
Rice is represented by three players,
pitchers Eddie Degerman and Cole St. Clair and utility player Joe Savery.
Houston utility player Brad Lincoln, Southern Miss pitcher Daniel Best and
Central Florida pitcher Tim Bascom are the league's other representatives
under consideration for the honor.
The Dick Howser Trophy, given in memory
of the former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major
league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987, is regarded as
college baseball's most prestigious award. Criteria for consideration for
the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and
courage, qualities that were exemplified by Howser's life.
The membership of the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) will choose the Dick Howser
Trophy recipient based on three rounds of voting. The 2006 winner will be
announced at the College World Series in Omaha on Friday, June 16, at 8:30
a.m. EDT.
Pirates move Sunday's baseball game
with Tulane to 11 a.m.
ECU
vs. Tulane Sunday game time changed
Sunday's baseball game between East
Carolina and Tulane has been moved from noon to 11 a.m. to accommodate
Tulane's travel arrangements. ECU officials made the announcement Thursday
through a release from the university's athletic media relations department.
ECU (27-15, 6-6 C-USA) and Tulane
(28-15, 5-7) will start a three-game Conference USA series Friday night at 7
p.m. at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The ECU baseball ticket office will
open Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for fans who wish to purchase tickets for the C-USA
series finale.
