NCSU's Williams to go No. 1 in NFL draft
The Houston Chronicle reported Friday
night that the hometown Texans have signed North Carolina State defensive
end Mario Williams to a contract, meaning he'll be the first player selected
in today's NFL Draft.
The contract is for five years with an
option year. The potential value of the pact is almost $54 million, with
nearly $26.5 million of that guaranteed.
Duke point guard's brother commits to Heels
Mike Paulus of Christian Brothers
Academy (Syracuse, NY), the No. 2 quarterback in the class of 2007 according
to recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, told USA TODAY on Friday afternoon that
he has verbally committed to play football at UNC-Chapel Hill.
Paulus, 6-5, 215, is the younger
brother of Duke basketball point guard Greg Paulus. He chose the Tar Heels
over Syracuse, Michigan, Southern Cal, Tennessee, Alabama and Northwestern.
As a junior, Paulus threw for 2,130
yards and 22 touchdowns in 11 games as Christian Brothers (11-1) reached New
York's AA state semifinals.
Blue
Devils get a lacrosse victory
Duke is still successful in lacrosse,
albeit the women's team.
Duke got four goals from Katie Chrest
and survived six from Maryland's Delia Cox to top the Terrapins in the
Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship semifinals at M&T
Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Friday, 19-9.
The top-seeded Blue Devils had 10
players score goals on the evening, with Chrest, a two-time ACC Player of
the Year, leading the way.
The men's lacrosse season at Duke was
suspended after charges of sexual assault were made against team members.
