Clark-LeClair Stadium featured in video game

EA Sports has announced that East Carolina's Clark-LeClair Stadium is one of four new stadiums to be introduced into the MVP 07 NCAA video baseball game.

Clark-LeClair Stadium is the first stadium in North Carolina to receive such recognition and just the second Conference USA stadium to be featured, along with Rice's Reckling Park.

Other additions to the game in 2007 include Virginia’s Davenport Field, Arkansas’s Charlie Baum Stadium and Polk-DeMent Stadium at Mississippi State.

Rice rated No. 1 in preseason coaches poll

Rice is ranked No. 1 in the USA Today preseason college baseball coaches poll. The Owls were 57-13 last season and finished third in the College World Series.

Conference USA member Tulane is ranked 16th.

Ranked ACC teams include Clemson (No. 2), Miami (No. 3), North Carolina (No. 5), Virginia (No. 9), Georgia Tech (No. 11) and Florida State (No. 17).

Voters in this season's coaches poll include Mike Gaski of UNC-Greensboro, Gary Gilmore of Coastal Carolina, Danny Hall of Georgia Tech, Rick Jones of Tulane and Mark Scalf of UNC-Wilmington.

Topps to feature cards for former Duke stars

The Topps Company, noted trading card manufacturer, has announced that it will produce special limited edition trading cards of Duke basketball alums J.J. Redick and Shelden Williams to commemorate the retirement of their jersey numbers.

Both starred at Duke from 2003-06 and are currently playing in the NBA. Williams’ number 23 will be retired on January 28 and Redick’s number 4 will be retired on February 4 at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The first 9,000 fans in attendance at each game will receive the player’s respective commemorative trading card.
