N.C. prep hoops star re-routes to Memphis
Doneal Mack, a 6-foot-5, 175-pound guard
from Statesville, has signed a scholarship to attend the University of
Memphis, according to an announcement on the school's website. He is
expected to be a part of the 2006-07 Tiger squad.
Mack originally signed a national letter of
intent with Florida, but was not granted admission to the school. He then
signed a scholarship with Memphis.
This past year, Mack averaged 31.1 points,
7.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists in helping lead Statesville Christian School to
a 26-13 overall record and the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA)
Division I championship. Mack, who played for Coach John Jordan, was named
to the Associated Press All-State second team and the North Carolina
Independent School Athletic Association (NCISAA) All-State first team.
Prior to his senior season at Statesville
Christian School, Mack was ranked the No. 47 overall player by Rivals.com.
The web site also ranked him the No. 11 shooting guard in the nation.
Scout.com ranked Mack the No. 19 shooting guard in the country.
ECU's Flye, Ray land in CPL All-Star Game
A pair of East Carolina players have been
selected to play in the Coastal Plain League's 2006 All-Star Game.
Right-handed pitcher Mike Flye, a junior from
Greenville, will be on the roster of the CPL's American League all-star
club. Outfielder Jamie Ray, a sophomore
from Casar, will play for the opposing National League club.
The Coastal Plain League's eighth annual
All-Star Game will be played at J.P. Riddle Stadium in Fayetteville, on
Tuesday, July 18th at 7:05 p.m.
The American Team features players from 11 CPL clubs:

Miller receives Clemens Award
The Houston Chronicle reported that North
Carolina left-hander Andrew Miller won the 2006 Roger Clemens Award. The
honor, which recognizes the nation's top college pitcher, was presented by
Clemens in Houston at the Marriott Westchase on Wednesday night. Clemens, a
longtime Major League star, currently pitches for the Astros.
Miller, whose Tar Heels lost to Oregon
State in the national championship series, was 13-2 with a 2.48 earned run
average in 2006.
Houston's Brad Lincoln, Rice's Eddie
Degerman and Washington's Tim Lincecum were also finalists.
Miller, 6-foot-6 and 210 pounds, was the
ACC player of the year. The Detroit Tigers took Miller sixth overall in the
June draft.
