Compiled from staff reports
and electronic dispatches
Former ECU slugger Tracy inks mega-deal
The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed
third baseman Chad Tracy to a 3-year, $13.25 million contract extension
through 2009 with a club option for 2010.
Tracy, a vital force in East Carolina's
run to the Super Regional in Kinston against Tennessee in 2001, is making
$381,000 this season. He will receive a $1 million signing bonus, $2,75
million next year, $3.75 million in 2008, and $4.75 million in 2009,
according to
rotoworld.com.
There's a $7 million club option with a
$1 million buyout for 2010, which would be Tracy's first season of free
agency.
C-USA
announces weekly baseball awards
Houston junior righthander Brad Lincoln
has been named the Conference USA baseball pitcher of the week for the
period ending May 14, the league office announced Monday. Rice sophomore
infielder/designated hitter Joe Savery was named the league's hitter of the
week.
Lincoln posted a complete-game shutout
at No. 1 Rice on Friday night to end the Owls 17-game conference winning
streak and earn his fourth C-USA pitcher of the week award of the season. He
allowed only five hits and struck out nine while walking just two in
throwing his second shutout of the year. Lincoln retired the first 10
batters that he faced and 20 of the first 23 in earning his 11th victory of
the season.
Savery helped the Owls go 3-1 last week
and win the Conference USA regular season title by batting .500 (9-for-18).
He hit safely in each game, slugging a double, a triple and two home runs.
Savery drove in nine runs, including five in Sunday's championship-clinching
win over No. 10 Houston. He also scored three times.

Third
Duke lacrosse player indicted
The Durham Herald reported the
indictment of a third Duke lacrosse player Monday on rape, sexual offense
and kidnapping charges.
The player, co-captain Dave Evans,
turned himself in to authorities after labeling the charges against him and
two teammates as "fantastic lies" at a news conference preceding his
surrender.
The indictment had been widely
expected, as District Attorney Mike Nifong had pledged to pursue a third
suspect despite the apparent lack of DNA evidence.
Evans and sophomores Collin Finnerty
and Reade Seligmann are accused of raping, sodomizing, beating and
strangling an exotic dancer who had been hired for a team party March 13.
