NOTES FROM ECU AND BEYOND...
Previous Day Nuggets...
Next Day Nuggets...
Compiled from staff reports
and electronic dispatches
Navy,
NCSU limit tickets for ECU fans
East Carolina's booster organization
will likely face an acute imbalance of supply versus demand when it comes to
tickets for its members for a pair of highly anticipated road football games
this fall.
The Pirate Club has only 3,000 tickets
to sell for ECU's season opener at the U.S. Naval Academy on Sept 2, and
3,500 for the Pirates' regular-season-ending game at North Carolina State on
Nov. 25, according to a release on
ecupirates.com.
To maximize ticket distribution for
these games, the release said, the ECU Ticket Office will send out ticket
applications later this week to Pirate Club members having a priority
ranking of 1 to 1,500 as of May 16, 2006. The maximum number of tickets a
qualifying member can purchase for either game is:
-
4 — 2006 Annual Gift of $5,000 and
above (2006 annual fund contribution plus 2006 Circle of Excellence
payment)
-
2 — 2006 Annual Gift of $4,999 and
below (2006 annual fund contribution plus 2006 Circle of Excellence
payment)
Ticket prices have been established at
$28.00 for the Navy game and $38.00 for the game with the Wolfpack.
Pirate Club members not ranked in the
top 1,500 were permitted to order directly through Navy starting this past
Tuesday via the Academy's athletics Website at
navysports.com, said the ECU release. Phone sales are to
begin on May 23 at 9:00 a.m. at 1-800-US4-NAVY.
Individual game tickets at N.C. State
will be made available at a later date.
Pirate Club members that are ranked 1
through 1,500 cannot be guaranteed that they will receive tickets to either
game, said the release, which noted that orders will be filled in priority
ranking order from ticket applications received by the June 16th order
deadline date.
If a member places an order that cannot
be fulfilled, said the release, ECU will automatically refund the payment.
C-USA trio invited to USA Baseball tryouts
Three Conference USA sophomore
standouts are among the 20 college underclassmen to accept invitations to
participate in the 2006 USA Baseball National Team Trials, USA Baseball
announced Tuesday. Rice first baseman/pitcher Joe Savery and relief pitcher
Cole St. Clair are joined by Tulane starting pitcher Sean Morgan in
representing C-USA at the tryouts, according to the league website.
On the mound, Savery owns a 4-1 record
with a 2.08 ERA, holding 190 batters that he has faced to a combined .242
average. As a hitter, Savery is listed among the top 10 in C-USA in RBI (51)
and doubles (17), while batting .326 for the season. He has slugged two or
more hits in a game 18 times, including three hits six times, and also has
driven in two or more runs in a game 12 times, the most on the team.
St. Clair ranks among the NCAA leaders
in strikeouts per nine innings (13.8 pg) and ERA (1.74) and among the C-USA
leaders in appearances (29), and opponents' batting average (.149). Four of
his nine saves have been against ranked teams, pitching 25.2 innings against
ranked opponents, holding the elite foes to a composite .186 batting
average.
Morgan, a sophomore right-hander from
Sugar Land, TX, earned the invitation after leading the Green Wave with a
2.98 ERA, 110 strikeouts and a .207 opponent batting average in a club-best
96.2 innings of work. Entering the final weekend of the regular season,
Morgan is 8-4 and ranks second in C-USA in innings pitched and strikeouts
looking (37), tied for second in games started (14), third in strikeouts,
tied for third in wins and eighth in ERA.
Wolfpack's Brackman to sit out rest of season
The 2006 baseball season is over for
North Carolina State two-sport standout Andrew Brackman due to a stress
fracture in his left hip.
Brackman, a forward in basketball, had
a 1-3 record on the mound this spring with a 6.35 earned run average. He
last pitched on April 21 at North Carolina.
Medical personnel have indicated that
Brackman is expected to make a complete recovery.
