Houston, Rice hurlers on 10-man Clemens list
University of Houston junior
righthander Brad Lincoln was named as one of 10 semifinalists for the Roger
Clemens Award on Thursday, according to a release on the school's athletics
Website.
The Roger Clemens Award, given to the
top pitcher in college baseball, will be presented at the Marriott Westchase
Hotel in Houston on July 12.
This season, Lincoln has emerged as one
of the nation's top pitchers. He has compiled an 11-1 record with a 1.67 ERA
and 141 strikeouts in 113 innings of work.
Lincoln's relative numbers are even
better in Conference USA games as he has assembled a 7-0 league record with
a 1.28 ERA.
Lincoln's strikeout total already ranks
as the fourth-best mark in UH single-season history and is only 16 K's away
from tying the record of 157 set by Brad Sullivan in 2002. His ERA is
currently tied for the fifth-best mark in school history.
He has earned C-USA Pitcher of the Week
honors four times during the regular season and was recently named the
Pro-Line Cap National Pitcher of the Week after tossing a five-hit shutout
with nine strikeouts at No. 1 Rice on May 12.
Senior righthander Eddie Degerman of
C-USA member Rice also made the semifinal cut for the Clemens award. He and
Lincoln are joined on the list by Tyler Chambliss of Florida State, Sean
Doolittle of Virginia, Tim Lincecum of Washington, Dallas Buck of Oregon
State, Andrew Miller of North Carolina, Brandon Morrow of California, David
Price of Vanderbilt and Wes Roemer of Cal State Fullerton.
Tucker turns away from Texas, retains agent
The Austin America-Statesman has
reported that Big 12 player of the year and Texas star P.J. Tucker has
signed with an agent and will not return to the Longhorns.
Tucker, who played high school ball at
Raleigh Enloe, has signed with agent Leon Rose. Longhorns coach Rick Barnes
did not comment initially.
